I have the best husband...he truly didn't mind baby shopping with me on Saturday from 10am until 5pm (with an afternoon pick-me-up at Marble Slab {which I didn't mind too much}). After getting all those wonderful gifts from people, I made a list of everything that was left to buy...it really wasn't a terribly long list. We were able to pretty much get everything, which I was happy about.
Our first stop was at the children's resale store on the south side of town. Wonderful place. We got this changing table that's in pretty good shape - even came with a changing pad. Today, once I wiped the dust/dirt/yuckiness off, it looked almost new. But we decided we wanted to paint it green to match the dresser (the one we bought and painted from a flea market last fall). So that's how I spent my Sunday afternoon - finding ways to bend over, yet not squish the baby while painting.
After a few more stores, it was time to go to Babies R Us and pick out a Pack-N-Play. First of all, we hate going to that store, and we were getting tired & cranky from shopping (it was mid afternoon by now). So here's where we refueled at Marble Slab. It worked. It took a little decision making (price versus comfort & stability), but we finally decided on a Chicco Play Yard. For those not familiar with this recent piece of technology, it's a portable bassinet and playpen w/ changing table. So now when we travel, she'll have a place to sleep, and it will also serve as her playpen at home.
I'm sure I missed a few essential baby items (who can think of everything?), but for the most part, I feel that we have what we need prior to her entrance into the world. This evening, I also spend some time rearranging the room trying to get it just right (I probably am nesting after all). And after painting for a few hours today, my back and feet hurt, so I'm gunna go lounge on the couch.
