Our attempts at taking away the pacifier in the past have failed miserably. We originally wanted it gone by 6 months. Didn't happen.
Our attempts at taking away the pacifier in the past have failed miserably. We originally wanted it gone by 6 months. Didn't happen.Lately, I have been trying to limit the time she has it to only when she's sleeping or really, really upset. And somehow she still ends up with it more than I'd like.
I know using a pacifier is not the worst thing in the world, but I don't want my two or three year old to still use one (I was just told by a friend that she knew a 5 year old who showed up to Kindergarten class with one). And the older Erin is, the worse it will be. She already has a strong addiction to it.
So, we're getting rid of it, cold turkey. Tonight: we didn't give it to her at bedtime and screamed like she was being tortured for a solid hour. Honestly, I thought she'd go longer. She's been silent ever since, so we'll see what happens over night.
And now this is going to make nap time soooo much fun again!

We agreed that Adam could have the pacifier until 2. A couple weeks ago he hit that milestone, we took it away and never looked back. He was upset for a day or two and occasionally asks for it but has not had a pacifier at all since his birthday. Cold turkey worked for us!
