Yesterday, we attended a VIRTUS training session in Kingsport. The subject matter was child sexual abuse...anyone working or volunteering in the Church who will be around children are required to take this class (I took it because of the Mom & Tot playgroup). There weren't many opportunities to take the class locally before the end of April, so it ended up that we took an hour and a half drive on our Saturday to do this. No complaints there, it's basically the last time we're leaving town for a while, and the drive was nice.
We ended up being the only two people that showed up (out of four). It was definitely informative and worth attending. You don't want to think about this sort of thing happening, but you don't want to ignore it either. Anyway, I'm glad we went.
At the end of the class, the instructor suggested that, if we had the time, we go visit Bays Mountain Park up the road. We were going to take a short hike/walk anyway, and this place has little animal habitats, so how could we resist?
It was a beautiful place, they had habitats for deer, wolves, a bobcat, otters, and raptors (birds, not dinosaurs like I'd hoped). We would have stayed longer to take a hike, but my knee was bothering me a bit.
Afterwards we enjoyed a dinner out at Ruby Tuesday's. We ended up getting a free $7.99 salad bar, which was a nice surprise.
Good day yesterday.
