Wouldn't it be nice to be able to sometimes get a tiny glimpse into the future so you could avoid certain situations?
Last night after dinner I took Erin with me to Kroger to get a few things. If I had known how this would end, I surely would have left her at home.
Everything was fine until we got into the check-out line. I was waiting behind a mom who had a LOT of groceries to buy. Erin noticed that her young daughter was eating some Starburst candy and asked if she could have some. I quietly explained that we don't know that girl, so she couldn't have any.
Very quickly I got the high pitched whine and teary eyes..."but I want some, mommy." It escalated into a full tantrum within 30 seconds. She stood there crying as loud as can be with tears streaming down her face. Then she noticed the abundance of candy bars, etc. to her left and wanted to get something. And of course telling her no made things worse.
Finally we paid and got out of there. I actually didn't notice too many stares. She cried all the way home (which was like 2 minutes) and I put her in our bedroom so she wouldn't wake up her sleeping brother.
She finally calmed down and we sat there talking for a bit. After a little while she tells me it's potty time...but it's too late. She peed on our bed.
Thank goodness at that point it was her bedtime.
