11 weeks along (ultrasound was at 8 1/2 weeks)

Our Little Guy

That's right, we have a son! Everything is looking great. He's 11oz and still on track for a June 6th due date.

I got bored this afternoon, so I went ahead and pulled down Erin's boxes of clothes to find the neutral stuff. There was actually a lot more than I thought. So we have a good start, but we definitely need more.

Oh, and in case you don't know what you're looking at in the ultrasound photo, the smaller circle in the middle is his head/face and the circle to the right is his abdomen. We also got the ultrasound on DVD, so I'll post that video in a day or two.

Little Blob

Here is our first ultrasound - at 7 weeks along. He or she is about as big as a grain of rice. There is, in fact, only one baby and we should expect the arrival around June 6th.

Everything is looking great so far. We were able to hear the heartbeat. It's amazing how early that starts. For a while my appointments will be 4 weeks apart and the next ultrasound will be at 20 weeks when we can tell if it's a boy or girl (that'll be early January).

I'm still not feeling that many physical changes. I get hungry more often, but I like to eat, so that's not a problem :). I felt a little sick to my stomach yesterday, but I've been fine today. Let's hope I can pass on the morning sickness.

So Who Does She Resemble?

After many boring doctor visits, we finally had an exciting one again. After waiting 45 minutes in the lobby (all ultrasounds are done on Mondays, so there were several expecting couples waiting with a blank DVD in their hands), we were called back to take a peek at our baby.

Everything is coming along just great, no problems whatsoever. She is, in fact, head down (which I strongly suspected) and weighs 5 pounds 11 ounces. We got a quick view of her feet, which were exactly where I had felt them kicking while waiting in the lobby.

Our appointment was at the end of the day, and when we talked to the doctor afterwards she commented on how she had seen a lot of abnormalities during the day, and ours was perfectly normal and looking great. So that's always good to hear.

I'll now have doctor appointments every week until she gets here. At my visit next week, I'll be full term, so she's going to start checking me for dilation.

Ultrasound

These things can be hard to tell what's going on, so as you watch, here's what's being shown:

Measuring the top of head; face from straight on; heart; belly; leg bone; feet; blood flow in umbilical cord; spine; measuring amniotic fluid; face again for a couple seconds.

Bean Now Shaped Like a Human

The second, and more exciting ultrasound, was December 10th. This was at week 20, so at this point we were able to find out that it was, in fact, a girl. And now, she actually looks like a human! We were able to get the whole ultrasound recorded on a DVD, which was pretty cool. Also, we posted it to YouTube.

I'm not sure if we are getting a third one done, I think I'll ask at my next appointment. I hope we do, because it's pretty awesome to get to peek inside.

Our Little Bean

Our first ultrasound was Oct 2nd of last year, around week 10 of the pregnancy. It was our first visit (I had to wait a while to go to the doctor for my new insurance to get situated) and we were pleasantly surprised to find out we were getting the ultrasound. At that point, it certainly made the whole thing more real. We had a little blob of joy!
