Nap Strike

I have no idea why, but Noah is on a nap strike since yesterday. He woke up a little later than usual (7:30), so I waited to put him down until 10 (normal naptime is 9). He cried for a half hour, so I got him up and gave him a bottle.

I put him down again at noon, and he cried for a full hour. This is very strange for him, because for a while now I'll put him down for a nap and he'll go right to sleep.

Yesterday afternoon we had a playdate at the mall play area and he fell asleep in my lap for an hour b/c he had missed his two naps for the day. And then at bedtime he also cried for another 45 minutes before falling asleep (he never cries at bedtime).

I wasn't sure what to expect for today, and sure enough he's 30 minutes into his "nap" and he's still screaming.

The problem is, it could be a few different things and there's no way to know. It could be teething which can disrupt sleep, but he has two teeth already and his sleep was not disrupted with those.

My fear is that it's separation anxiety and he just doesn't want me to leave the room. The past week or two he has been getting bad about not wanting me to leave the room. He's fine playing by himself as long as he can see me. But as soon as I walk away or he realizes I'm gone, he'll come crying after me.

I hope this passes soon because there's nothing I can do about it and I don't like it. He's not going to be a happy camper if over several days (or weeks) he doesn't nap at all.

He didn't take either nap today at home, but fell asleep in the car as we were out at a park playing in the sunshine. He went to bed just fine, so that's a good sign...
