I've had it in the back of my mind to get flu shots for me and Erin (Noah can get his at his 6 month checkup). Sean got his shot at school today and was showing Erin his band-aid when he got home. She's fascinated with anything doctor related (I recently bought her a toy doctor kit b/c of her love of the stethoscope).
After realizing we needed something at Kroger for dinner tonight, I decided to take Erin and go ahead and get the shots while we were there. Before leaving the house I explained what we were going to do, and she got pretty excited about it. She said "I'm going to get my shot right here," pointing at her wrist (she has a syringe in her doctor kit so I'm sure she was picturing that).
To Erin's disappointment, she was too young to get one at Kroger (had to be at least 14). So I explained that we would probably just take her to the doctor another day to get hers. She's okay with this alternative plan. She even tells the check-out clerk that she's going to the doctor.
So we get in the car and she says to me that we're heading to the doctor. I tell her no, we're heading home, and that the doctor is closed for today. She breaks down in tears!
I felt so bad especially since she doesn't really realize what the flu shot is. I wonder if she'll keep talking about it tomorrow. Guess I better get on the ball and make an appointment.
