Will Crawl For Food

This morning she still wouldn't crawl to get to a toy or just for the sake of moving around, but she would haul butt to get a Gerber Puff (and the way she's crawling I almost feel like I'm rewarding a wounded dog with a treat). Occasionally she would move a foot or two to climb into one of our laps.

This afternoon, however, after coming back from Kroger I put her down by the back door. I put the food away and kept calling for her. When I was done, I sat down about 8 feet away and she did crawl over. So that's progress.

Over the past several weeks I have heard comments from people that we shouldn't be encouraging her to crawl, because once she's mobile it's all over and we will miss the days when she couldn't move around. That may be true, but isn't that a little selfish? I mean, as parents it's our job to help her develop and learn new things. Are these the same people who will lock their kids in the closet when they turn teenagers (well, that we might do)?

Also, when strangers in the store oogle all over how cute Erin is...I'm totally over that. And when I went out to Kroger today, I had her in a blue shirt with black pants. I put a blue bow in her hair so I wouldn't have to deal with her becoming my son.

To end on a bright note, she's quietly sleeping in her crib...and she had only protested for about a minute when I left.

i think you should encourage her every bit of the way through every milestone. saying nothing when she's trying something new does well is crazy! :)
