Sleep

(I know you probably really don't care about the details of my child sleeping at night, but part of the reason for this blog is to document the start of her life. And in the world of parenting a baby, sleep is a big part of it, and small progress is huge!)

For those who have been following along, you know that Erin has yet to sleep in a bassinet or crib at night. Her first few weeks were spent being held by someone constantly, refusing to lay down on her own. Then, for about a month I spent my nights sleeping on the couch with her laying on my chest. But hey, at least we were both sleeping.

The next breakthrough was when she would sleep all night in her swing, but still waking every few hours to eat. Finally, a couple weeks ago, she started sleeping 7-8 hours straight a night.

Our next goal is to get her to sleep the whole night in her bassinet, as a 3 month old should. I tried that a little while ago, only to have her wake up after 3 hours. I also tried having her sleep in her swing, but not turning it on (again, only made it about 3 hours).

As we are learning, babies will do things in their own time. I took a chance last night of putting her in her swing and not turning it on (knowing I could be woken up at any time). To my delight, she slept till 7am!

So I think this is the first step to getting her out of her swing. Yay!

I thought we were paying for those out of her college fund anyways...
