Insofar as Possession is Delayed

First, a note: In order to keep all the baby-coming-into-the-world stuff together, both Cheryl and her husband will be blogging here. Her posts will look normal; his will be in this funky-colored font. Think of it as your one-stop shopping resource for those of you shopping for baby news.

Of which, by the way, there is still little to report. We're coming up on twelve hours of mild-to-serious contractions at home. They're still not regularly 5 minutes apart, so we're still not going to the hospital. We took a walk this morning at dawn, and that seemed to speed things up for a bit. But for now we're just waiting.

Which brings me to...

...the second reading in today's Office is from St Augustine:
We have been promised something we do not yet possess, and because the promise was made by one who keeps his word, we trust him and are glad; but insofar as possession is delayed, we can only long and yearn for it. It is good for us to persevere in longing until we receive what was promised, and yearning is over; then praise alone will remain.
This, I assume, is God playing with us.

Sts Augustine and Monica, servant of God Dorothy Day, pray for us.
